determine if your sore throat may be due to Strep bacteria

Strep Throat is caused by a bacteria called Group A streptococcus.

Strep throat causes a worsening sore throat, fever, white pus pockets on the tonsils, and swollen lymph nodes in the front of the neck. You may also experience a headache and mild body aches.

Strep throat is usually diagnosed via a rapid strep test [throat swab]. Sometimes a diagnosis can be made without testing depending on the symptoms that are present.

Because Strep Throat is caused by bacteria, an antibiotic is needed to treat after a diagnosis has been made. Over-the-counter pain relievers can be used to help with sore throat pain.
